Messianic Prophecies Fulfilled By Jesus
Was Jesus really the Messiah? Are there enough Messianic prophecies fulfilled by Jesus to make a clear case? There are plenty of detractors and doubters. Why am I so convinced that Jesus was the fulfillment of God's promise to send us a Savior?
These thirty Messianic prophecies fulfilled by Jesus are just the beginning in the pile of evidence that proved Jesus was Who He claimed to be.
If you're already a child of God and have put your faith in the Savior, I hope reviewing these Scriptures with me will thrill your soul as much as it does mine. Knowing what we know, we have a great responsibility to share our faith with others.

Thirty Prophecies Jesus Fulfilled
There are numerous Old Testament prophecies about the coming Savior that were fulfilled in the New Testament by Jesus Christ. Messianic prophecies fulfilled by Jesus is a fascinating study and one that blessed my heart and continues to increase my faith.
I'm just going to share 30 of the key prophecies and their fulfillments to help show the connection between the Old Testament promises and the New Testament realities, proving that Jesus was Who He claimed to be - The Only Begotten Son of God and Savior of the world.
1. The Savior Would Be Born of a Woman
- Prophecy: Genesis 3:15
"And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." - This verse, known as the "Protoevangelium" (the first Gospel), foretells that the seed of the woman would crush Satan’s power.
- Fulfillment: Galatians 4:4-5
"But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law. To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons."
2. The Savior Would Be Born of a Virgin
- Prophecy: Isaiah 7:14
"Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." - Fulfillment: Matthew 1:22-23
"Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."
3. The Savior Would Be Born in Bethlehem
- Prophecy: Micah 5:2
"But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting." - Fulfillment: Matthew 2:1-6
"Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem... And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet."
4. The Savior Would Be a Descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
- Prophecy of Abraham’s Descendant: Genesis 22:18
"And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice." - Fulfillment: Matthew 1:1
"The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham." - Prophecy of Isaac’s Descendant: Genesis 21:12
"For in Isaac shall thy seed be called." - Fulfillment: Luke 3:34
"Which was the son of Jacob, which was the son of Isaac, which was the son of Abraham..." - Prophecy of Jacob’s Descendant: Numbers 24:17

5. The Savior Would Come from the Tribe of Judah
- Prophecy: Genesis 49:10
"The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be." - Fulfillment: Hebrews 7:14
"For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood."
6. The Savior Would Be Called a King
- Prophecy: Zechariah 9:9
"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass." - Fulfillment: John 12:13-15
"Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt."
7. The Savior Would Be Rejected by His Own People
- Prophecy: Isaiah 53:3
"He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not." - Fulfillment: John 1:11
"He came unto his own, and his own received him not."
8. The Savior Would Be Betrayed for Thirty Pieces of Silver
- Prophecy: Zechariah 11:12-13
"And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. And the Lord said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the Lord." - Fulfillment: Matthew 26:14-15
"Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, and said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver."
9. The Savior Would Be Crucified with Sinners
- Prophecy: Isaiah 53:12
"Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors." - Fulfillment: Mark 15:27-28
"And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left. And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors."
10. The Savior Would Be Buried for Three Days
- Prophecy: Jonah 1:17
"Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights." - Matthew 12:39-40
"But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." - Explanation Jesus Himself confirms that Jonah’s story was a foreshadowing of His own resurrection. Just as Jonah emerged alive after three days in the belly of the fish, Jesus would emerge victorious from the grave after three days in the tomb. This prophecy emphasizes both the literal resurrection of Christ and God’s sovereign power to accomplish His purposes, no matter the circumstances.

”And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly.
11. The Savior Would Be the Son of God
- Prophecy: Psalm 2:7
"I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee." - Fulfillment: Matthew 3:17
"And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
12. The Savior Would Be a Descendant of David
- Prophecy: Jeremiah 23:5
"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth." - Fulfillment: Luke 1:32-33
"He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end."
13. The Savior Would Be Preceded by a Messenger
- Prophecy: Isaiah 40:3
"The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God." - Fulfillment: Matthew 3:1-3
"In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight."
14. The Savior Would Be a Light to the Gentiles
- Prophecy: Isaiah 49:6
"And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth." - Fulfillment: Luke 2:30-32
"For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel."
15. The Savior Would Heal the Sick and Perform Miracles
- Prophecy: Isaiah 35:5-6
"Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert." - Fulfillment: Matthew 11:4-5
"Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them."
16. The Savior Would Be Hated Without Cause
- Prophecy: Psalm 35:19
"Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause." - Fulfillment: John 15:25
"But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause."
17. The Savior Would Be Silent Before His Accusers
- Prophecy: Isaiah 53:7
"He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth." - Fulfillment: Matthew 27:12-14
"And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee? And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly."
18. The Savior Would Be Pierced for Our Transgressions
- Prophecy: Zechariah 12:10
"And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn." - Fulfillment: John 19:34, 37
"But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water... And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced."
19. The Savior’s Garments Would Be Divided by Casting Lots
- Prophecy: Psalm 22:18
"They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture." - Fulfillment: Matthew 27:35
"And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots."
20. The Savior Would Be Buried with the Rich
- Prophecy: Isaiah 53:9
"And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth." - Fulfillment: Matthew 27:57-60
"When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock."
21. The Savior Would Be Called Immanuel (God With Us)
- Prophecy: Isaiah 7:14

22. The Savior Would Be a Prophet Like Moses

"And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. 23. The Savior Would Be Declared the Son of God with Power
- Prophecy: Psalm 2:7
"I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee." - Fulfillment: Romans 1:3-4
"Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead."
24. The Savior Would Begin His Ministry in Galilee
- Prophecy: Isaiah 9:1-2
"Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined." - Fulfillment: Matthew 4:13-16

25. The Savior Would Speak in Parables
- Prophecy: Psalm 78:2-4
"I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done." - Fulfillment: Matthew 13:34-35
"All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world."
26. The Savior Would Enter Jerusalem on a Donkey
- Prophecy: Zechariah 9:9

27. The Savior Would Be Betrayed by a Close Friend
- Prophecy: Psalm 41:9
"Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me." - Fulfillment: John 13:18
"I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me."
28. The Savior Would Be Mocked and Ridiculed
- Prophecy: Psalm 22:7-8
"All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him." - Fulfillment: Matthew 27:39-43
"And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God."
29. The Savior’s Bones Would Not Be Broken
- Prophecy: Psalm 34:20
"He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken." - Fulfillment: John 19:33-36
"But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken."
30. The Savior Would Rise From The Dead
- Prophecy: Psalm 16:10
"For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption."
This verse prophesies that the Messiah’s body would not decay in the
grave (a reference to the resurrection) and that He would not be
abandoned to death.
- Fulfillment: Acts 2:25-27, 31
"For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. … He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption."
- Explanation: In Acts 2, Peter directly quotes Psalm 16:10 in his sermon on the Day of Pentecost. He explains that David, the writer of this psalm, was prophesying about the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Peter states that David, being a prophet, foresaw that the Messiah would rise from the dead, proving that Jesus' body did not decay in the grave and that He was resurrected.

These Messianic prophecies and their fulfillments by the Jesus Christ reveal the perfect harmony between the Old and New Testaments. They also emphasize the profound truth that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of God’s promises to send a Savior.
Every prophecy fulfilled in Him confirms His identity as the Messiah, the Redeemer of mankind. Through these Scriptures, we see God’s perfect plan and His love for a lost and broken world. Jesus came as the Savior, fulfilling every word written about Him, and continues to be the source of eternal hope and salvation for all who trust in Him.
Each Messianic prophecy fulfilled by Jesus points to God’s sovereignty, faithfulness, and the assurance we have in Christ. By studying these Scriptures, we can deepen our understanding of God's great love for humanity and His plan to bring salvation to all who believe.
